Elixir of Love

Elixir of LoveWell, we’ve been kept busy with SOSA’s production of L’Elisir d’amor (Donizetti) which opens on Saturday night (28th July.) Jess has been having much fun in the chorus, pretending to be a chicken, and holding on to her hat, amongst other things; while I’ve been enjoying playing for all the rehearsals working with the conductor Ben Northey.

It must be said that this is a brilliant and genius production - if you’re thinking of not coming, then I really think you should think again. It’s VERY funny, and it wears it’s “Aussieness” on it’s sleeve, tongue-in-cheek, with no hint of pretension. Of course, we know the singing will be excellent, but the stars of the show are surely the cavalry arriving on their corrugated-iron horses.

So, make sure you buy/beg/borrow/steal a ticket, it’s just one of those iconic things worth seeing.  More details HERE.

Lunch Hour Award

Recitals AustraliaOn Wednesday, Jessica sang in the finals of the “Autumn Lunch Hour Award” - a regular competition held by Recitals Australia (The Australian Society of Keyboard Music) in Pilgrim Church.  Competitors are chosen from all the people who have performed outstandingly in the Lunch Hour Concert Series so far, and Jessica was awarded one of the $1000.00 first prizes for her performance in the finals!

Recitals Australia are one of the biggest supporters of young musicians in Adelaide, providing important opportunities for students to perform in an excellent venue.  Jessica and Anthony have both been supported in many ways by Recitals Australia, so we would like to pay tribute to their continued outstanding commitment to developing young musicians.

Check out their website for information on their concert series’, or just pop into Pilgrim Church on Flinders St on almost any Wednesday at 12:10pm or 1:10pm to hear a glimpse of the next generation of young musicians.
